region, as well as tours of landscapes without any contamination. The
immediate presence of the Sierra de Béjar-Candelario guarantees
visitors a variety of settings, that can hardly be fully known in a
weekend.

Hiking is an increasingly practiced. This
region offers a lot of walking routes, with exceptional views and a
wealth of natural plants and animals that are really spectacular. Marked
trails for ease of fans across the Sierra de Béjar - Candelario
and its environs. From swamp to the high peaks of the mountains. From
pleasant walks to hikes to mountain lakes, ski resort, cliffs, gorges,
etc.

History

For those curious about History, we suggest a visit to
various historical eras: prehistoric sites in the same vicinity of
Valdesangil, anthropomorphic
tombs carved in stone, Roman, Roman forts, the remains of the Arab
presence in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, many of them without
leaving the environment of Béjar.

The proximity of the ski resort of 'La
Covatilla' makes the fans of this sport to have a way to practice

Micology
|

For fans of mushrooms, these sites offer a
variety of species, which include boletus, the carboneras,
the níscalos, the colmenillas, parasols, etc. out
of the wide variety of flora that populate this area: chestnut, walnut,
oak, pine, maple, holly, ferns, etc..

Ornithology
|
|
|
Birdwatchers can enjoy the great variety of birds
found in these environs. From the prey, which abound among the red kite,
the black kite, the griffon vulture, some eagles, falcons, etc. to the
smallest, such as striking orioles, blackbirds, the magpies, etc.
through storks (almost permanently present). |

Out of the cuisine of the area we can highlight these
specialties:
|
|
- The famous "calderillo", which is an excellent
beef stew with potatoes and peppers. |
|
- The "patatas revueltas", mashed potatoes boiled
and then cooked with the fat of fried bacon and paprika.
|
|
- Beef from different species, especially the race "Morucha",
which ia a cow not too big and native to this region. |
|
- As for the pigs, the Iberian pig, undisputed king
of this area both the ham and the very different kinds of sausages, which
includes another top product of the region: paprika (sweet, sour or spicy).
Sausage itself from this area, we have the black pudding pumpkin named "morcilla
de calabaza" (incidentally one of the few black pudding not including
blood at all). |

- About Iberian pig we can also highlight some less
familiar in other regions such as the "cruceta" (or "secreto"),
the "pluma", the "bola", etc.. that, on the grill, will
delight diners the best. |
|
- As for the
vegetables in the area, deserve special mention the wide variety of fungi, mushrooms of every season,
in addition to products of small gardens of these stocks. |
|
- At the Sierra de Francia area, there's
a local wine from a grape variety named "rufete", that is becoming more and
more known.
